Jarod Bormann
I caught the bug in high school, in yearbook class of all places, and I’ve chased it in some form ever since.
In college it was just a fun creative outlet. I never had the gear to do it right. Then a friend asked me to film their wedding, so I checked out the professional equipment from our student media center. That was it. Video was the most fun I’d ever had being creative. It went well enough that other people started asking, and for a while I was the guy who filmed weddings. Then I finished college, had my first kid, and packed the side business away. But I never really put the camera down. I’ve always been drawn to using a lens to capture stories, and for that next decade the story I was telling was my own kids’.
In 2020, some former students asked if I’d film their wedding. I was always the techie teacher. It had been a good ten years since I’d held a professional camera, so I invested in the right tools and went all in. That first wedding back was an absolute blast, and I haven’t looked back since.
I’ve been in education since 2006. Middle and high school English at first, adults now. A master’s in instructional technology keeps me thinking about how a story gets told, and that’s the thread through all of it. The English teacher in me is wired for stories. Behind a camera I’m doing the same thing, capturing yours, whether it’s a wedding couple, a senior, a family, or a team.
